Carol began freelance editing in 2011, focusing mainly on RPGs. She co-hosted the “All Games Considered” podcast and was the Gaming Track coordinator for ConGlomeration through 2018. The con’s last event took place in 2019.
Carol is from Louisville, KY, and went *all the way* … across the river to Clarksville, IN. Geographically, she may not have made much of an impact, but to the written word, she’s traveled far and wide.
With over two hundred projects for more than thirty publishers and authors, Carol is also:
Stepmom to three amazing (now-adult) children.
Is forever grateful that her parents didn’t name her “Grace” – as evidenced by all that air she’s tripped over throughout her life.
Is quoted as saying, “I told a friend once, ‘Forward is the only direction that I know how to go.’ That has kept me sane more than once”. OK, she’s the one who quoted herself later to a different person about that, but it counts, right? 😉
Her LinkedIn profile states, “I am a detailed and thorough researcher and analyst. I can apply those skills to business analysis or other topics of research. I have implemented practical measurements of multiple compliance metrics for various clients. I’ve experience in creating instruction and training documents. I freelance as an editor and writer, mainly for Tabletop RPGs and speculative fiction. I’ve also written product reviews and essays. I work well with the Chicago Manual of Style, AP Stylebook, and other style guides and resources. Current objectives include full-time freelance editing and writing. I can and have also designed indices and content-specific style guides.”
Let me break it down: “I have implemented practical measurements of multiple compliance metrics for various clients.
I have taken a document with over a dozen metrics, and for the measurements that I was responsible for, devised a way to analyze and then report monthly statistics to managers and the client, for compliance with business and regulatory standards. I did this for over twelve years, and while hardly a creative venture, it was a project of which I’m very much proud.
I have worked on over two hundred book projects for over thirty publishers and individual authors. Developmental Editing, Copy Editing, Line Editing, Proofreading, and some writing. I’ve worked on game lines such as Mutants and Masterminds, Cyberpunk RED, and Fallout, and that’s just a few. I’ve broken my portfolio down by publisher, as you can see on this page.
And, I’ll say it again: “Current objectives include full-time freelance editing and writing. I can and have also designed indices and content-specific style guides.”
I work mainly in editing and proofreading, though I have also contributed to writing on some of these titles.
I hold an MLS in Library and Information Science and can perform research and fact-checking. I maintain subscriptions to resources such as the Chicago Manual of Style and the AP Stylebook. I’ve worked on titles with various rules, depending on the audience, and I confirm which grammar rules to use before starting a project. I also discuss which style guide to use and/or if the publisher wants me to utilize an in-house style guide.
